How Often Should I Bathe My Cat?

Cats famously self-clean—but do they need baths?

Generally, cats keep themselves clean through their meticulous grooming rituals. Frequent bathing isn’t necessary, and many cats find the experience stressful. However, occasional baths may be needed, especially for long-haired breeds, senior cats, or cats with skin conditions.

A good rule of thumb: bathe your cat no more than once every few months unless specifically advised by a vet. Use a gentle, cat-specific shampoo, maintain calm surroundings, and be prepared with plenty of towels and soothing words!

Regular brushing also helps reduce the need for baths and keeps their coat healthy, shiny, and tangle-free.
